Tea Tree Essential Oil for Goats (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Tea tree is an ultra useful essential oil for goats and one I keep on hand in my own toolkit.

Tea tree is broadly antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory, making it a true workhorse for skin, gut, and respiratory support.

Uses of tea tree essential oil for goats:
  • Skin and coat: ringworm, yeast, bacterial scurf, hot spots, mite-prone areas
  • Wound and abscess support, including resistant strains like MRSA
  • Sinus and lung congestion (in blends or steam)
  • Lice and external parasite knockdown
  • Gut and rumen support. Research in goats (Lv et al., 2022) shows dietary tea tree at 0.2 ml/kg of feed strengthens the gut barrier, boosts secretory IgA, and tones inflammatory markers. In vitro work on goat rumen cells (Hu et al., 2021) confirms a clear anti-inflammatory effect.
