The bold, warming cinnamon most people know from the spice aisle — but in the barn, it's doing real work. Cassia cinnamon is rich in cinnamaldehyde, the compound responsible for its strong flavor and its powerful antimicrobial, antifungal, and blood sugar-supporting properties. It's the more potent of the two cinnamon varieties we carry, making it the go-to choice when you want maximum therapeutic punch.
Cassia vs. Ceylon — know the difference: We carry both because they serve different purposes. Cassia is higher in cinnamaldehyde, giving it stronger antimicrobial action and a bolder flavor. It also contains more coumarin, a naturally occurring compound that can stress the liver in large sustained doses. For short-term, targeted therapeutic use, cassia is the stronger choice. For gentle daily use, see our Ceylon cinnamon. Many goat keepers stock both.
Why goat keepers use cassia cinnamon:
- High cinnamaldehyde content delivers strong antimicrobial and antifungal action
- Supports healthy blood sugar balance and metabolic function
- Warming and stimulating — supports circulation and digestive function
- Palatable flavor that goats generally accept well, improving uptake of herbal blends
- Traditionally used during immune challenges, digestive sluggishness, and cold weather
- Pairs well with ginger, cayenne, and garlic in warming immune and circulatory blends
Suggested use: Mix ¼–½ tsp per goat into feed. Best used as a targeted, short-to-medium-term therapeutic herb rather than a year-round daily staple (due to coumarin content). Excellent added to immune-support blends and cold-weather formulas. For daily long-term cinnamon use, consider our Ceylon cinnamon instead.
